Florida gas prices face upward pressure on strong demand

first_imgGas prices rose 2 cents nationwide last week, as prices in the southeast face upward pressure. Wholesale gasoline prices rose 8 cents in Florida and Georgia, and 7 cents in Tennessee. Florida gas prices averaged $2.74 per gallon on Sunday. The state average is 2 cents less than a week ago, 3 cents more than last month, and 45 cents more than a year ago. The most expensive gas price averages in Florida are in Crestview-Fort Walton Beach ($2.89), Panama City ($2.86), and West Palm Beach-Boca Raton ($2.84)The least expensive gas price averages in Florida are in Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater ($2.66), Punta Gorda ($2.66), and Orlando ($2.66)“Motorists may see higher gas prices this week,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Strong demand and lower inventories pushed wholesale prices higher. The added cost for retailers will likely be passed along to motorists. Based on demand figures, summer drivers are unfazed by higher prices at the pump this year. Fortunately, a potential 5-10 cent increase this week would still leave pump prices below this year’s highs.”Although oil prices held relatively steady last week, gasoline futures surged for the second week. The price for gasoline on the NYMEX rose a total of 16 cents during the past two weeks, pushing wholesale gas prices higher. Gasoline rose in response to EIA data that showed a dip in gasoline supply inventories, as gasoline demand reaches near record levels. Gasoline demand for the week of July 20, was the fourth highest weekly rate this year.last_img read more

UK government to implement online tax rise before FOBT stake cuts

first_img Submit UKGC launches fourth National Lottery licence competition August 28, 2020 Related Articles Winning Post: Swedish regulator pushes back on ‘Storebror’ approach to deposit limits August 24, 2020 StumbleUpon Share Share UKGC hails ‘delivered efficiencies’ of its revamped licence maintenance service  August 20, 2020 The Times has this morning reported, that the UK government will delay its implementation of an industry-wide £2 FOBT machine stake reduction until April 2020, citing that the UK Treasury has struck a ‘backroom deal’ with betting leadership.Last May, UK Culture Secretary Matt Hancock confirmed the government’s decision to reduce FOBTs wagering levels to £2 limit, stating that the government would implement the UKGC’s recommendations on the controversial subject matter.Upon the announcement of the £2 cut, industry leaders urged the government to implement a ‘transition period’ aimed at reducing the impact of the judgement on the UK betting sector’s retail enterprises. In its report, The Times states that betting leadership has convinced the Treasury to adopt an ‘extended implementation period’ to reprogram betting shop terminals. The reported delay on FOBTs reductions is set to have deepened the rift between Matt Hancock’s DCMS department and the Treasury. Overseeing the implementation of UK gambling laws DCMS expected the new FOBTs wagering regulations to be implemented within a nine-month period.Prior to the government’s decision to implement a £2 reduction, UK news sources reported that Treasury leadership had expressed concerns related to lost duties, as the Office of Budget Responsibility detailed that FOBTs machines could raise circa ‘£74 million of the forecasted £119 million in UK machine gaming duties for the period up to 2023’.However, it appears that UK betting will not be able to escape political implications, as The Times reports that the Treasury will move to impose a higher tax rate on online gambling services which will be delivered in the April 2019 budget. An online gambling tax hike is designed to compensate the exchequer for the loss of tax revenues from lower FOBT profits. At present, little is known with regards to the government’s potential new online gambling tax rate, however, the potential introduction before the lower FOBT stake mandate would see the UK Treasury benefit from a year of double taxation.last_img read more

6 of the Best – EPIC Risk Management’s Paul Buck

Best HolidayGreat question and a hard choice. Tempted to plump for an unbelievable honeymoon in Singapore and Bali in 2001 – to this day I would still class Singapore as my favourite city in the world, but I am going to go for a cricket tour to South Africa representing Lancashire in April 1993. We toured the whole spine of the country from Cape Town right up to Johnannesberg including safari’s, loads of cricket and we played one of the first ever cricket matches against a team with black players post apartheid. There were dozens of press there and I soon realised it wasn’t necessarily just to watch me play! Best Sporting ExperienceLoads to choose from! Playing wise probably either playing football on the famous plastic pitch at Deepdale in a junior cup final in 1987 when I was 11 years old, or scoring my first ever century as a 12 year old for a village cricket team called Hesketh Bank (in Lancashire) v Southport Trinity CC. In terms of proper sport, I am a massive Preston North End fan so the 4-0 play off final win v Swindon Town in May 2015 is right up there when Jermaine Beckford scored a hat-trick to promote is back up to the Championship. We haven’t quite managed to reach the Premier League yet, much to the amusement of the other lads at EPIC, but confident we will get there one day … maybe next year! Best AlbumThis one’s easy! As an 18 year old, hitting adulthood and going to university Oasis were massive and they released the album ‘Definitely Maybe’. Every song on there is a classic and timeless still being played today. Every time you hear one of those tracks it brings memories back. Other than that I was a big Queen fan early on in life and more recently Ed Sheeran and Imagine Dragons.Best FilmAgain not an easy decision. I was considering a few different ones including Pulp Fiction, Shawshank Redemption and Sixth Sense but my favourite set of films were the Rocky series with Sylvestor Stallone. All of them brilliant in their own way but if I had to plump for one then Rocky 4 when he was up against Ivan Drago. The speech at the end may have been very staged but actually very true and inspirational! Always liked an underdog. Best BookGoing to split this into two if I may. From a business perspective I would go for ‘Five Dysfunctions of a Team’ by Patrick Lencioni. Anyone who is part of, or in particular runs, a team of any type should read this book for insight. From an autobiography point of view I would say Paul Merson’s ‘How Not to be a Professional Footballer’. It is a brilliant insight to life as a footballer playing in the 1990’s in a top, top team whilst also suffering some personal issues including addiction. I have been fortunate enough to get to know Merse in recent years and he’s a top fella. We even share the same birthday!Best Bet An interesting question for a recovered pathological gambler! In a 17 year gambling ‘career’ there were a lot of highs and a lot of lows which ultimately led to a rock bottom of pretty catastrophic proportions. These ranged from winning £179,000 on my own horse to losing over £250,000 in around 2 hours on an online casino. With that in mind my best best was probably £2,800 on Fistral Beach (Paul Nichols / Ruby Walsh) in November 2011. It was 100/30 favourite and looked a cert. It ended up being pulled up but it was my last ever bet as a pathological gambler, and then the long and winding journey began to creating EPIC, building a great team and since becoming a leading force in advising the highest risk industries around vulnerability, sustainability and player protection. I needed to go through the journey to provide the authenticity that EPIC are renowned for.last_img read more
