UN chief condemns latest Egypt terrorist attack

In a statement issued this afternoon by the United Nations spokesperson’s office, the Secretary-General deplored the series of attacks committed earlier today in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula resulting in the deaths of over 70 Egyptian soldiers and the injury of many others and conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government of Egypt.“The United Nations stands firm with the people of Egypt in their fight against terrorism,” Mr. Ban’s spokesperson added.Today’s attack comes just days after a bombing rattled the Cairo suburb of Heliopolis killing the Egyptian Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat and injuring at least eight others.According to initial reports, the two incidents do not appear to be related. read more

Delays cancellations and repairs fuelling rise in commuter violence at Britains train

Commuter frustration over cancelled services, delays and lengthy refurbishments has been blamed for a huge increase in violent incidents at railway stations across the country. It was the scene of a vicious attack on Sir Christopher Meyer, the former British ambassador, who was knocked unconscious by a teenager while boarding a train at Victoria tube station last year. London’s Victoria station was revealed to be the most dangerous in the UK, with 250 violent incidents reported to police by passengers over the past 12 months.
